We are among the top 30 elite restructuring practices worldwide – GRR100 2021

19 Nov 2021

Drew & Napier’s Corporate Restructuring & Workouts practice group is named one of the world’s top 30 restructuring practices in the latest 2021 edition of GRR 100 ranking guide by Global Restructuring Review (GRR). This is the fourth consecutive year the firm is recognised in the elite GRR 30 ranking.

Under the leadership of co-heads Sushil Nair and Julian Kwek, together with key directors Blossom Hing and Chan Wei Meng, our Corporate Restructuring & Workouts team was identified as a global top 30 elite restructuring law firm owing to our strong track record for acting in complex and novel cross-border restructuring and insolvency matters worldwide.

In the latest edition, the team was praised for its aptitude in expertly and successfully guiding companies through extraordinarily complex and often intense restructurings. A referee is impressed that Sushil Nair and Julian Kwek are both “extremely hard-working, smart and creative”. The same referee also commended Blossom Hing, Chan Wei Meng and Mohan Gopalan for “the first-rate quality of their work and their dedication to helping their clients work through and emerge from difficult times”.

This accolade further attests to the Corporate Restructuring & Workouts practice group’s capability in handling high-stake, cross-border restructuring and insolvency matters. These matters include advising Heliconia Capital Management, an investor that is part of Singapore’s state-owned wealth fund Temasek Holdings, on a novel pre-packaged scheme of arrangement secured by southeast Asia’s largest shipping liner, Pacific International Lines, providing counsel to the informal steering committee of lenders for Hin Leong, acting for the Public Utilities Board, the National Environment Agency of the Republic of Singapore and the Securities Investors Association (Singapore) in relation to the debt restructuring of the Hyflux group, as well as acting in the restructuring of BrightOil Petroleum, KrisEnergy Ltd, TT International Limited and many more.

The team was earlier ranked as a Tier 1 practice for Restructuring & Insolvency for 15 consecutive years in the latest 2022 edition of IFLR1000. The group was also ranked a top tier practice in Restructuring & Insolvency for 14 and 10 consecutive years respectively in the 2021 editions of Chambers Asia-Pacific and Legal 500 Asia-Pacific.

Similarly, our lawyers are consistently well-recognised. In the latest 2022 edition of IFLR1000, Sushil Nair was ranked a Market Leader, while Julian Kwek, Blossom Hing and Chan Wei Meng were ranked Highly Regarded lawyers. Our young and talented lawyers, Mohan Gopalan and Teri Cheng were also ranked as Rising Star Partners.

Sushil Nair, who is also Drew’s Deputy CEO, said: “We owe this recognition to our team of committed lawyers for their unwavering dedication and hard work in making a difference for our clients. We are grateful to our clients for entrusting some of their largest, most complex restructuring matters to us, and we will continue to strive to deliver top-rated  legal services to our clients for years to come.”

About GRR
GRR is a leading daily information service that specialises in providing cross-border insolvency and restructuring news across the globe. Every year, GRR conducts extensive research to compile the GRR 100, an annual guide that highlights the world’s leading cross-border restructuring and insolvency practices. The guide is then further broken down to the crème de la crème—GRR 30—a ranked list of elite firms at the top. To be included in the annual GRR 100 and GRR 30, firms are assessed on a variety of factors including the value of the restructuring and insolvency cases handled, the types of legal instruments used for restructuring and winding-up process, as well as the applications of cross-border recognitions.
