19 Apr 2021

Drew & Napier is pleased to announce that Drew clinched top spots in Asian Legal Business’s (ALB) inaugural Asia Super 50 Disputes Lawyers and Asia Top 15 TMT Lawyers. Our Chairman Jimmy Yim SC and Directors Blossom Hing, Mahesh Rai and Daniel Cai are recognised as Asia Super 50 Disputes Lawyers, and Head of Telecommunications, Media & Technology (TMT) Lim Chong Kin is named as an Asia Top 15 TMT Lawyer.

Drew & Napier has the highest number of recognised lawyers in both Singapore and in the region for the Asia Super 50 Disputes Lawyers list. More than 900 clients, including in-house counsel and business decision makers, sent in recommendations directly to ALB for lawyers based in 13 Asian jurisdictions. The list was finalised based on the quantity as well as quality of the recommendations.

Jimmy is praised by a client for being “extremely genial, but at the same time can be strong and very persuasive. He has an ability to quickly grasp complex technical issues”. Blossom is highly commended by a client for being “absolutely excellent. She has a brilliant mind, an exceptional work ethic, and an expert commercial strategist. Absolutely the best there is”. Rated “10/10” by a client, Mahesh is lauded for working “that extra 10 percent to ensure all bases are covered, and was always three steps ahead of the defendant in my High Court litigation”. Daniel won plaudits from a client for being “an excellent lawyer with methodical and insightful approach to litigation. I have no doubt that he will make Senior Counsel one day”.

Chong Kin is one of three Singaporeans named as a Top TMT Lawyer in Asia.

ALB’s research team and judges selected Chong Kin based on the following criteria: significant TMT cases in his entire career and the last 12 months; key and new clients attained; accolades and awards won; client recommendations; leadership; professional accomplishments specifically in the TMT space (in terms of breadth, complexity, innovativeness and significance); contribution to his firm, the bench and bar, and the general public.

In ALB’s Asia Top 15 TMT Lawyer feature, Chong Kin shared that he and his team continue to strengthen existing relationships or build new ones through online avenues in light of the pandemic. He added, “For example, our Drew Data Protection & Cybersecurity Academy has been holding regular lunchtime webinars on a wide range of topics and this is something which I expect will continue in the near future”.

Further, in an exclusive interview with ALB, Chong Kin cited three big predictions for technology companies/startups in 2021/22: “a) COVID-19 will continue to drive adoption and demand for digital services such as the cloud, e-Commerce and digital payments, which will benefit technology companies/startups operating in these spaces; b) Technology companies/startups in other nascent spaces such as EdTech and HealthTech will benefit strongly from the digitalisation trend as well and would likely be the engine powering the next wave of growth; and c) A number of prominent regional technology unicorns will be profitable amidst wider adoption and economies of scale”.
