In the article, Yuet Min and Samuel discussed how sports disputes are becoming increasingly diverse and complex, extending beyond traditional issues such as anti-doping and broadcasting rights into emerging areas involving technology and sports integrity issues. They highlighted that Singapore is well positioned to resolve commercial sports disputes involving sponsorship, media rights, technology and intellectual property matters. They pointed to Singapore's strong arbitration framework, internationally recognised institutions, and extensive pool of experienced arbitrators as key advantages. However, they also noted that regional jurisdictions are strengthening their sports dispute resolution offerings. For example, Hong Kong and Malaysia have introduced dedicated initiatives aimed at facilitating sports-related disputes, particularly in the non-commercial space.
