We are pleased to announce that Lim Chong Kin, Head of Telecommunications, Media & Technology Practice, and Rakesh Kirpalani, Chief Technology Officer, have been recognised as Asian Legal Business’ (ALB) Asia Super 50 TMT Lawyers for the 3rd consecutive year.

They were among 50 outstanding lawyers who were selected in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications space in Asia based on client feedback sent to ALB between January and February 2023. Lawyers were chosen based on their work as well as the commercial standing of the clients who submitted their recommendations. ALB received over 400 recommendations from in-house counsels across 11 jurisdictions in Asia and overseas.

Chong Kin’s core expertise is in telecommunications, media and technology, having played a key role in liberalising the telecoms and media markets in Singapore. He is also a pioneer in data protection and cybersecurity laws, having assisted in the set-up of Singapore’s data protection framework. He represents a Who’s Who list of the top technology clients on their business operations and commercial transactions in ASEAN.

In the Asia Super 50 TMT Lawyers feature, one of Chong Kin’s clients praised him for being “technically proficient and commercially savvy”, “has in-depth understanding of the regulator and is a competent, professional and experienced legal adviser”, and described the TMT team under his lead “superb and knowledgeable”. Another client found “his approach to the query creative and transformational without compromising on compliance and regulatory requirements.” Chong Kin was also recognised as ALB’s Asia Top 15 TMT Lawyers for 2 consecutive years.

Appointed as Chief Technology Officer of Drew & Napier at the age of 38, Rakesh leads the Dispute Resolution & Information Technology practice. He is engaged in appellate and trial advocacy at all levels of the Singapore Courts and arbitral institutions. He has been described as a ‘fantastic litigator’ in the realm of technology and intellectual property as he uses his extensive IT skills to simplify legal and technological issues for decision makers.

Rakesh was commended by a client for his “unique ability to straddle both the tech and legal space”. He is very sharp and is able to identify potential risks and liabilities in novel issues that are caused by emerging technology. He is able to ensure that our leaders can fully comprehend and appreciate the issue, all the while remaining professional and ethical. Rakesh's grasp and understanding of the local TMT landscape never fails to assure us that we are guided by one of the best in the market.”
