Workplace Fairness Act – Statutory tort and procedure introduced

On 4 November 2025, Parliament passed the Workplace Fairness (Dispute Resolution) Bill which will buttress the Workplace Fairness Act's prohibition against workplace discrimination, allowing individuals to bring a civil action for a statutory tort of discrimination against employers. The Act, which is a landmark piece of social impact legislation in Singapore, will come into force by the end of 2027.
In this update, our Employment Co-Heads Kelvin Tan and Benjamin Gaw, together with Director Desmond Chng highlight some key features of the Workplace Fairness Act and discuss some practical steps that employers should take in preparation for the new Workplace Fairness legislation.
