We are pleased to share that at the prestigious International Financial Law Review (IFLR) Asia Awards 2016, Drew & Napier bagged the Restructuring Rising Star of the Year and Restructuring Deal of the Year Awards. The awards ceremony was held on 3 March 2016, at the Island Shangri-La in Hong Kong.

We are especially proud of Senior Associate Mohan Gopalan who was presented with the region-wide IFLR Rising Star of the Year award in the Restructuring category, having been praised by clients and lawyers as a promising young lawyer.

Separately, Mohan also featured in the Global Restructuring Review’s “40 under 40” survey published on 1 March 2016. He is listed among 40 lawyers from 29 law firms across 16 cities around the world, who were selected based on the matters they worked on, quality of recommendations, and, often, the presence of their firm in the regional or global marketplace.

With his team, Mohan is involved in several prominent restructuring matters in the region, including the debt restructuring of PT Berlian Laju Tanker Tbk, the largest debt restructuring exercise in Indonesia in recent years.

In fact, our Corporate Restructuring and Workouts team received the Restructuring Deal of the Year award for the same PT Berlian Laju Tanker Tbk matter.

The team led by Directors Sushil NairSteven LoChan Wei Meng, and Jon-nathaniel Nair, Associate Director Tan Teng Sen, Mohan Gopalan and International Lawyer Mandy Cheong acted as lead counsel for PT Berlian. They advised on Singapore law and coordinated the functions of counsel in other jurisdictions including Indonesia, the USA, Hong Kong and the Marshall Islands.

Drew & Napier was also nominated for the IFLR Regional Firm of the Year and Restructuring Team of the Year awards, as well as the M&A Deal of the Year award for our innovative work in the much publicised Jiangsu Changjiang Electronics Technology’s consortium S$1.03 billion bid for Temasek-controlled STATS ChipPac.
