The Prevention of Corruption Act

Recently, there has been increased attention worldwide in the area of anti-corruption law due to the enactment of the UK Bribery Act 2010 (“UK Bribery Act”). The UK Bribery Act will come into effect in the UK on 1 July 2011.

Singapore’s anti-corruption laws under the Prevention of Corruption Act (“PCA”) have extraterritorial effect. This means that Singaporeans who have business dealings overseas will fall under the purview of the PCA. As trade with countries in the region increases, the potential exposure to liability under Singapore’s anti-corruption laws increases correspondingly.

This update briefly discusses the anti-corruption laws in Singapore under the PCA.
