Data Protection, Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice Co-Heads Lim Chong Kin and David N. Alfred, and Deputy Head Anastasia Chen co-authored the chapter on “Singapore: data protection rules for investigations and cross-border transfers” of Global Investigations Review (GIR) - the Guide to Cyber and Data Privacy Investigations, Fourth Edition.

The chapter provides an overview Singapore’s data protection framework for internal, external and cross-border investigations, focusing on the Personal Data Protection Act 2012’s key obligations, investigation-related consent exceptions, treatment of personal data and business contact information, individual rights, use of data intermediaries and third-party advisers, overseas transfer requirements, disclosures to regulators and enforcement authorities, penalties for non-compliance, and relevant PDPC guidance and case law, among others.
