Personal Data Protection Act 2012 Comes into Operation

Selected provisions of the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (“PDPA”) came into operation on 2 January 2013, as part of the phased implementation of the PDPA. These mainly include provisions that set out the scope and interpretation of the PDPA, provide for the establishment of the Personal Data Protection Commission (“PDPC”) and the Data Protection Advisory Committee, provide for the establishment of Do-Not-Call (“DNC”) Registers by the PDPC, and other general provisions of the PDPA.
