14 Oct 2026

On 7 October 2026, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (“MAS”) issued its Guidelines on Artificial Intelligence Risk Management (the “Guidelines”), setting out MAS’s supervisory expectations for the responsible adoption and use of artificial intelligence (“AI”) by financial institutions (“FIs”).

The Guidelines address oversight, key AI risk management systems, policies and procedures, AI life cycle controls, and AI capability and capacity. The Guidelines apply to all FIs in a manner proportionate to their size and risk profile.

The Guidelines take effect on 7 October 2027.

In this Update, we consider:
(a)   the scope of the Guidelines and their treatment of AI risks and proportionality;
(b)   the principal supervisory expectations for AI oversight, inventories, materiality assessment and life cycle controls;
