Data Protection in Singapore – Getting your business ready - article in ALB

This article discusses the Personal Data Protection Bill which was passed by Singapore Parliament on 15 October 2012. The Personal Data Protection Act (“PDPA”) was gazetted on 3 December 2012. The PDPA is Singapore’s first general baseline law on data protection, and signals an important milestone for Singapore as it seeks to bridge the gap between Singapore’s laws and international trends in respect of data protection. The article also sets out briefly some practical steps which organisations should consider adopting, to prepare themselves ahead of the PDPA coming into force.
