Brenda specialises in family litigation and private client disputes. She has advised and acted for clients in a wide range of proceedings including divorce, annulment, maintenance, custody, care and control of children, family violence and probate.

Brenda’s practice includes experience in complex and high-conflict family litigation, as well as in alternative dispute resolution, including mediation.

In her formative years, Brenda also handled civil matters in the areas of contract, tort, employment and construction.

  1. Acting for a client in divorce proceedings involving a high value estate and complex issues such as pre-marital assets, inheritance and gifts.
  2. Acted for a father applying for care and control under the Guardianship of Infants Act against his wife diagnosed with dysfunctional personality traits and benzodiazepine dependence. Proceedings were highly contentious involving the Child Protective Service, 89 affidavits, 50 interlocutory applications, 6 appeals to the High Court and appointment of a Court-appointed psychiatrist. Care and control was eventually awarded to the father: VHA v VHB [2020] SGFC 31.
  3. Acted for a father in the mother’s appeal for care and control under the Guardianship of Infants Act. The mother’s appeal was dismissed, with the father retaining care and control of his 3-year old daughter.
  4. Acted for a mother in an application under the Guardianship of Infants Act involving custody, care and control, access, change of children’s surnames and injunction against the mother which restrained her from taking the children overseas.
  5. Successfully resisted a maintenance variation application by a father who sought to reduce child maintenance.
