Read Director Rakesh Kirpalani’s Q&A on data protection and information governance in Asian-Mena Counsel

04 May 2020

Rakesh Kirpalani, Director Dispute Resolution & Information Technology and our Chief Technology Officer, was interviewed by Asian-Mena Counsel on data protection and information governance issues faced by in-house counsel and private practitioners.

It is crucial to recognise how the technological and legal spheres interface. As there is increased scrutiny on a company’s cyber security and data protection, there is a greater need to seamlessly integrate the two functions. For example, forensic evidence preservation, review and analysis may need to become part of mainstream legal practice with both lawyers and external forensic experts in order to serve a client’s interests.

Rakesh also recommends for all lawyers to “take the time and effort to understand their company’s infrastructure” and for in-house counsel to “hold regular training courses for their IT counterparts to educate them on issues such as regulatory risk and privilege”.
