Drew welcomes fourth Senior Counsel with the addition of Emeritus Professor Jeffrey Pinsler, SC

We are pleased to announce that Emeritus Professor Jeffrey Pinsler, SC (LLB, LLM, LLD), has joined our firm as a consultant on 1 August 2022.

The board and fellow lawyers are thrilled to welcome Senior Counsel Jeffrey Pinsler back to Drew, where he pupiled and began practicing prior to an illustrious career in legal academia, focusing, in particular, on civil litigation, evidence and ethics. His books and articles are frequently relied on by judges and lawyers as authoritative sources and have also been cited in hundreds of judgments. He has produced or contributed to over 30 major text-books and reference works to date in his capacity as Author and/or Editor in Chief or Consultant Editor, and has written multiple articles.

Following his graduation from the University of Liverpool, Emeritus Professor Pinsler, SC pupiled at Drew in 1981 under retired Justice G.P. Selvam in the field of admiralty. He subsequently joined the National University of Singapore in 1986 and continued in academia until his retirement this year. He has served, among other roles, as Vice Dean, Chair of the Faculty Promotion and Tenure Committee and Chair of the Faculty Search Committee. He also held the Geoffrey Bartholomew Chaired professorship. He continues to be a member of the Faculty Teaching Excellence Committee and member of the University’s Board of Discipline (in his capacity as Emeritus professor). He is Senior Professorial Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Legal Education.

Emeritus Professor Pinsler, SC specialises in civil justice, civil and criminal evidence, procedure and ethics. He is an advocate and solicitor and barrister-at-law. He is a member of various professional committees of the Supreme Court and Academy of Law including the Board of Governors of the Singapore Judicial College, the Professional Conduct Council, the Rules of Court Working Party, the Council of Law Reporting and the Commissioning Panel of Academy Publishing. He has appeared as amicus curiae before the Court of Appeal, and has spoken at, and contributed to, conferences and reform programmes in various countries.

Emeritus Professor Pinsler, SC was conferred the degree of Doctor of Laws (LLD) in 2004 for his contributions to learning and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2008.

Emeritus Professor Pinsler, SC was the editor and author of successive editions of the Singapore Court Practice (Singapore Black Book) since 1999 (most recently renamed “Singapore Civil Practice 2022”, which covers the new Rules of Court 2021). He is also the author of seven editions of “Evidence and Litigation Practice” and several books on Ethics and Professional Responsibility.

Together with Drew & Napier CEO Cavinder Bull, SC, who is the General Editor of the Singapore Civil Procedure 2022 (Singapore White Book), Drew now has the editors of both the Singapore White and Black Books under one roof.
