Global Privacy Management: ASEAN Rising

08 July 2025

The data regulatory landscape in Southeast Asia is shifting dramatically, with significant changes such as:

  • Malaysia’s Mandatory Data Breach Notification, Appointment of a Data Protection Officer and Cross-Border Transfer requirements, which have been fleshed out in guidelines issued this year.
  • Vietnam’s Data Law, which governs digital data (whether personal or non-personal data) and related products and services.
  • Vietnam’s upcoming Personal Data Protection Law, which is expected to replace the current Personal Data Protection Decree.

Hear from our panel of lawyers across the region, including members who have been involved in the development of their respective jurisdictions’ regulatory frameworks, as they share about the critical timelines, key requirements and practical measures to ensure your organisation is prepared for these changes.

With active enforcement of data breaches expected to increase across the region, we will also provide an overview of the breach notification requirements across ASEAN and discuss how an organisation operating in the region can manage data breaches effectively.
