Following the enactment of Indonesia's Personal Data Protection Law in October 2022, 5 jurisdictions in Southeast Asia have enacted general data protection laws. In addition to Indonesia, these include Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. One significant aspect of data protection law is how it governs cross-border transfers of data. Related to this, member states of ASEAN, the Association of Southeast Asian nations have adopted a set of Model Contractual Clauses (MCC) for data transfers. This webinar considers obligations relating to cross-border transfers of data under the various data protection laws within ASEAN, permitted modes of data transfer and the impact of the ASEAN MCC.
