Two Competition Bills Tabled in the Philippines

This update discusses the two competition bills which were recently tabled at the Senate of the Philippines – the “Competition Act of 2011”, which was tabled on 17 January 2012, and the “Competition Policy Act of 2011”, which was tabled on 26 January 2012.

The two recently tabled bills mark the latest developments in the Philippines’ progress towards achieving a general competition law. Among other things, in June 2011 the Office for Competition, under the Department of Justice, was set up as the designated agency that oversees competition in the Philippines.
