Practice Training Contracts

Legal training is the first step in your practice of law. Our highly interactive and stimulating training contracts programme enables you to apply the discipline of law to real life situations. We have a well-deserved reputation for our structured and comprehensive programme.

Our training programme is based on three tenets:

Mentoring

Each trainee will have a Director as a supervising solicitor and a junior lawyer as a mentor. They will take a keen interest in your progress and development and provide you with constructive feedback and guidance along the way.

Your mentor will also be your ‘buddy’ and someone with whom your friendship will continue long past your traineeship.

Rotation

Drew has leading practices in both litigation and corporate work, and we are keen to let you experience first hand as much of it as possible. Our extensive practice areas will give you excellent training and development opportunities, and will give you the breadth of experience you need to help you decide which career path is best suited to your own unique strengths upon qualification.

During your practice training period, you will be exposed to at least 2 of the following areas of practice:

  • Civil litigation;
  • Criminal litigation;
  • Corporate practice; and
  • Conveyancing practice.

A Learning Culture

Drew treats your training seriously. We believe in helping our people realise their fullest potential. We have a strong tradition of teaching and nurturing our trainees and lawyers. Our open-door policy – where trainees and lawyers are free to brainstorm and approach anybody for advice and guidance – encourages learning and the development of expertise. You will also be immersed in an invigorating environment that will constantly encourage you to strive for excellence.

As a trainee, you will receive comprehensive training to develop your legal skills and prepare you for legal practice. This will include training in the following areas:

  • client care and management;
  • drafting;
  • conducting legal research;
  • conducting due diligence;
  • case and transaction management;
  • negotiation;
  • advocacy; and
  • professional responsibility, etiquette and conduct.

During your practice training period, you will also be given the opportunity to work on files, participate in client and other meetings and attend court.

With our impressive clientele, you will be exposed to challenging issues at the fore-front of legal development and be involved in cutting edge legal work.

Our Supervising Solicitors

Drew has 7 Senior Counsel - the largest number of Senior Counsel in any Singapore law practice. We are proud of the fact that all our Senior Counsel were groomed within the firm. You will have the opportunity to work with and learn directly from our Senior Counsel, as well as other directors and lawyers who are specialists in their respective fields.
