Formal Training Period and Training Contract 2011-2012
Pupillage is the first step in your practice of law. Our highly interactive and stimulating pupillage programme enables you to apply the discipline of law to real life situations. We have a well-deserved reputation for our structured and comprehensive programme.
The Drew Pupillage Programme is based on three tenets:
Mentoring
Each pupil will have a Director as a pupil master and a junior lawyer as a mentor. They will take a keen interest in your progress and development and provide you with constructive feedback and guidance along the way.
Your mentor will also be your ‘buddy’ and someone with whom your friendship will continue long past pupillage.
Rotation
At this early stage in your legal career, we believe you should be given the opportunity to be exposed to a wide variety of exciting work. Drew has a diverse legal practice and we are keen to let you experience first hand as much of it as possible. We recognise individualism and encourage you to follow the career path best suited to your own unique strengths.

Learning Culture
Drew treats your training seriously. We believe in helping our people realise their fullest potential. We have a strong tradition of teaching and nurturing our pupils and lawyers. Our open-door policy – where pupils and lawyers are free to brainstorm and approach anybody for advice and guidance – encourages learning and the development of expertise. You will also be immersed in an invigorating environment that will constantly encourage you to strive for excellence.
- Drew has 7 Senior Counsel - the largest number of Senior Counsel in any Singapore law practice. We are proud of the fact that all our Senior Counsel were groomed within the firm. You will have the opportunity to work with and learn directly from our Senior Counsel, as well as other directors and lawyers who are specialists in their respective fields.
- You will undergo comprehensive training under our specially tailored induction programme to kick-start your career as a lawyer.
- Our pupils learn to acquire practical skills in research, advocacy, drafting, preparation of opinions, case analysis and file management. You will work on files, participate in client and other meetings and attend court.
- With our impressive clientele, you will be exposed to challenging issues at the fore-front of legal development and be involved in cutting edge legal work
- Training continues even after you’re called to the Bar. To ensure that we are constantly updated on legal developments, Drew conducts regular in-house seminars where lawyers share their views and experiences on latest developments.
- You will have the chance to participate in conferences that Drew organises for our clients and other practitioners to keep them abreast of legal advancements.
- Our young lawyers are trained to be independent from an early stage and will get to run their own files and appear in court.
We strongly believe in investing in the development of our lawyers. Lawyers are encouraged to pursue further studies abroad and to gain experience of the practice of law in other parts of the world.
