My
impression of Drew was that it would be an intimidating place, being
one of the top law firms in Singapore with many legal luminaries.
However, this changed after I did an attachment. I found the quality
of work outstanding and I received tremendous exposure and training.
I also found the lawyers friendly and approachable. The clincher
came when I heard about the excellent training programme which Drew
offers. Naturally, I seized the opportunity when I was offered a
place here.
I would
be lying if I said that it was smooth sailing from day one. Drew
has high expectations of its pupils, and working with the big names
in the legal industry brings with it inherent pressures. Many a
time, I have had silly mistakes pointed out to me and my work amended
beyond recognition. However, what is important is that the lawyers
have willingly encouraged, taught and guided me along the way. After
a few months into pupillage, I have learnt to find my feet and what
seemed previously impossible now seems a reality.
I am
currently involved in mainly bankruptcy and insolvency work. I find
the experience invigorating, as the job requires not just legal
knowledge, but good negotiation and client management skills. Indeed,
the work has been fulfilling. I have worked directly with senior
lawyers, and have been trusted to handle many responsibilities.
I particularly
like the fact that Drew places strong emphasis on welfare. The firm
consistently comes up with fun and ingenious activities to help
everybody unwind. Bottom line is, I am glad I joined the firm. I
am confident that I will be able to fully develop my potential and
further my career in Drew. |
