About Morris

Morris is a Consultant in Drew & Napier’s Intellectual Property Department. He joined Drew & Napier in 1983 and became a partner in 1989. He had been a director since Drew & Napier LLC corporatised on 1 May 2001.

Morris is often named in leading publications. Recently, he was selected by his peers for inclusion in Best Lawyers Singapore® 2009 in the field of Intellectual Property, the second consecutive year since the survey started in 2008. Morris is also recommended by the Practical Law Company Which Lawyer? Yearbook 2009 for Intellectual Property work and is described as being “recognized in the market for his all-round IP expertise”. Chambers Asia 2009 has ranked Morris in Band 1 for Intellectual Property and describes him as offering “a terrifically knowledgeable and supportive approach to clients who say they would not hesitate to instruct him”. He is listed in the 2007 Guide to the World’s Leading Patent Law Experts and The International Who’s Who of Trademark Lawyers as a pre-eminent Intellectual Property practitioner. Asia Law Leading Lawyers 2009 also named Morris as a leading individual in Singapore for Intellectual Property work. Morris is listed in the Asia Pacific Legal 500 2009/2010 Edition as a leading individual for the 9th consecutive year and the Global Counsel Handbook: Intellectual Property 2003, a Practical Law Company publication, highly recommends him for Intellectual Property practice in Singapore.

Managing Intellectual Property has also named Drew & Napier the number one Intellectual Property practice in Singapore for nine years in the World IP Survey. The Practical Law Company Cross-Border Intellectual Property Handbook 2007/08 edition also named Drew & Napier LLC a Leading IP firm in Singapore.

Areas of Practice

Morris handles patent registration, as well as all aspects of Intellectual Property Litigation, including Patent Litigation, Trademark, Copyright and Design Infringement and Passing Off Cases. Morris is also experienced in General and Civil Litigation and has a niche practice in Insurance Litigation.

Experience

Morris has extensive litigation experience. Some of the cases he has handled include:

  • Successfully represented Sennheiser Electronic GmbH & Co KG in the latter’s anti-counterfeiting matters.
  • Represented Dor-Ware Resources Pte Ltd who was sued for design infringement and successfully getting the design revoked.
  • Represented Pfizer Pte Ltd in a trade mark infringement action against a pharmacist resulting in a two-months conviction against the pharmacist.
  • A claim by V-Pile technology (Luxembourg) S.A. in respect of an alleged patent infringement by a local company.
  • Representation of Creative Technology Ltd in a copyright infringement action against Aztech Systems Ltd.
  • Representation of Abbott Laboratories Inc. against an Indonesian company in an alleged breach of contract action.
  • Several multi-national companies in trademark infringement cases.
