About Gerald

Gerald is a Director in Drew & Napier LLC's Intellectual Property Department. He joined Drew & Napier LLC in 1998. Gerald has also been invited by various institutions in Singapore to speak on Intellectual Property registration and enforcement. Gerald is a member of the Examination Committee of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) Patent Agent Qualifying Examinations.

Areas of Practice

Gerald's main area of practice is in contentious and non-contentious Intellectual Property matters. His practice in IP law includes patent and design registration, anti-counterfeiting, patent and design enforcement and IP management. As part of his work, Gerald is also very active in the area of IP licensing, acquisitions and due diligence enquiries for local and multinational corporations.

Experience

His experience includes:

  • Successfully representing clients in a landmark case in the Singapore High Court involving infringement of a patent covering the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV-2)
  • Successfully representing clients in a claim for breach of confidence and passing off relating to ticketless, cashless automated carpark systems developed in Singapore
  • Successfully representing clients in a claim for groundless threats and revocation of a registered design in respect of a hinge
  • Assisting IP rights owners with civil and criminal proceedings in respect of a counterfeit pharmaceutical product
  • Intellectual Property due diligence analysis for venture capitalists considering investments in microchip, biomedical and oil/gas exploration technology
  • Assisting a client in the pharmaceutical industry to defend their patent in revocation proceedings at IPOS
  • Assisting a client in the specialty gas industry to seek revocation of a third party's patent at IPOS
  • Assisting a client in the consumer electronics industry to obtain and execute search and seizure warrants in respect of counterfeit goods
