About Eugene
Eugene has significant experience in the IT industry, having spent 3 years working with Microsoft Corporation and 2 years working with Creative Technology Ltd. He is also conversant with the Energy and Natural Resources industry.
Areas of Practice
Eugene’s versatile practice encompasses all types of corporate and commercial litigation and arbitration, as well as corporate transactions. He has represented clients from Singapore and overseas in a wide range of dispute resolution work in the areas of corporate and commercial disputes, commercial fraud, intellectual property infringement, employment matters, and charter party disputes. He has also advised major foreign corporations in commercial transactions including joint ventures and financing transactions.

Litigation & Dispute Resolution
- Acting for one of Thailand’s largest rice exporters, in respect of multi-jurisdictional disputes with US$25 million in issue and proceedings in Hong Kong, Thailand and the People’s Republic of China.
- Advising one of the largest integrated shipping groups in Thailand on numerous charter party disputes.
- Successfully defending a listed investment company against a S$2.3 million claim by its former CFO for severance payment.
- Advising a SGX-listed transportation company in a dispute with the Land Transport Authority in relation to the operation of the MRT’s Northeast Line.
- Recovering S$4 million from a Taiwanese bank for a businessman from China who was deceived into signing pledge documents by the officers of the bank.
- Recovering more than S$500,000 for a businessman from his co-guarantors who reneged on their obligations in a bank guarantee.
- Advising an investment bank in a dispute with one of their private banking clients in respect of unauthorized forex trades resulting in losses of several million US dollars.
- Successfully defending a developer and his company against a claim for S$20 million in commissions in relation to an industrial park project.
Transactional & Advisory
- Advising a US venture capital firm representing the US post-bankruptcy interests of Lehman Brothers in recovering assets in Thailand, including a property fund and several commercial buildings.
- Advising a major metals trading company on collateral management arrangements in Thailand.
- Advising Banpu Public Company Limited, Thailand’s largest coal producer, in a US$45 million financing round for the development of coal mines in Shanxi, China.
- Advising Banpu Public Company Limited in a joint venture with a state-owned enterprise in Henan, China to acquire an operational underground coal mine, with total investment costs exceeding US$94 million.
- Advising Banpu Public Company Limited in a joint venture to establish a 1800 MW lignite-fired mine mouth power plant in Lao PDR.
- Advising a Thai chemicals manufacturer and a British chemicals manufacturer in their joint venture to establish a nitrocellulose plant with total investment costs of £30 million.
- Advising the founding shareholders of an independent Thai music publishing house in the cessation of their joint venture with BMG Thailand and the establishment of their new music publishing company.
