DEBT AND CORPORATE RESTRUCTURING / DISPUTE RESOLUTION

About Blossom

Blossom’s practice is focused on debt restructuring and insolvency work. She also has considerable litigation and arbitration experience, handling contentious shareholder, employment and other commercial disputes.

She has been closely involved in the US$16 billion debt restructuring of Asia Pulp & Paper, one of the world’s largest and most complex restructuring exercises. The APP group had 150 subsidiaries worldwide including China, Indonesia, Singapore and Europe. Its creditors included the export credit agencies of USA, Japan, Germany and France, public and institutional investors and financial institutions. Between 2001 and 2004 Blossom worked almost exclusively on the APP group restructuring and spent considerable time in Indonesia.

Her cross border portfolio also includes devising a scheme of arrangement sanctioned by the courts in Bermuda that restructured some US$690 million of debt relating to APP’s China holdings. At the Asian Legal Business Awards in 2006 and 2008, the restructuring of the APP group’s Indonesian subsidiaries was named the Southeast Asian Insolvency and Restructuring Deal of the Year.

Blossom made her debut ranking as a leading individual in Chambers Asia 2011 for restructuring and insolvency. IFLR 1000: The Guide to the World’s Leading Financial Law Firms 2011 has also described her as a “highly skilled, intelligent, creative and aggressive litigator.” In the 2011 edition of Asialaw, clients noted that she is “very responsive, determined, and an excellent person to work with” while others have described her as “very capable with a good grasp of Indonesian legal matters”.

Blossom’s recent restructuring and insolvency work includes the following:

  • Advising creditors of Sino Environment Technology Group Ltd, a Singapore registered and listed company with assets primarily in China.
  • Successfully acting for creditors to have Provisional Liquidators appointed over Celestial Nutrifoods Limited, another Singapore listed company with assets and subsidiaries in China.
  • Acting for a major creditor to have Zhong Hui Holdings Ltd placed in judicial management.
  • Advising Ernst & Young Solutions in respect of the voluntary liquidation of a group of companies worth approximately S$302 million with assets ranging from real estate to shares and antiques.
Blossom’s recent disputes related work includes the following:
  • Obtaining judgment from the High Court and the Court of Appeal in favour of the founder and minority shareholder of Dovechem Holdings Pte Ltd (DHPL) which is part of the Dovechem group, a major solvent and chemicals group with interests in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, China and Vietnam.
  • Obtaining judgment for a Cargill group company in an employment dispute. In a landmark decision, the Singapore Court held that the restrictions on the ex-employee’s right to compete are not restrictive covenants.
  • Obtaining an arbitration award of some US$93 million in favour of one of the largest privately owned trading companies in the world.
  • Acting as a sole arbitrator appointed by the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.
